Where I’m From
I’m from the warm South and the freezing North.
I’m from the middle ground, right near a port.
Three times I’ve changed locations,
It all depends where my dad got stationed.
I’m from one with bravery and courage,
I’m from one whose humble and kind.
One day I hope for my own carnage,
Fighting for freedom I wish to wind.
A social butterfly from a young age,
My favorite activity was always to talk.
Much to my mom’s growing rage,
Never was there a peaceful walk.
Then middle school hit,
And my confidence took the hardest blow.
The world, I was above it,
Now I’m at the bottom.
Trudging through each day,
Not caring if I made it through the night.
Trying to keep the evil at bay,
I struggled for three years.
Then one day I made a change,
Sorry for myself I saw I became.
I was determined to be better,
To be enthusiastic and a go-getter.
It started with a smile to myself,
Then to those around me,
Next thing that I know I’m interacting soundly.
Then I started talking more
And actually enjoying conversations.
It was then I knew this was the start of a transformation.
I took baby steps day by day,
Slowly casting the evil away.
Getting happier as the time went by,
Excited to become which towards I strived.
Hanging out with friends,
Spending more time with my family.
No longer hoping to reach the end,
Actually really enjoying the journey.
Criticism became goals,
Anxiety became energy.
I patched up all my holes,
And truly loved the new me.
As hard as the past was,
I’d never take it back –
It’s shaped me into who I am,
And I’m really grateful for that.
Regret is pretty silly,
Hoping to erase our mistakes –
Without mistakes we can’t learn,
And without knowledge what can we make?
Now I love a challenge,
And wake up excited every day.
Grateful to tackle whatever comes towards me,
Ecstatic to improve in yet another way.
This enthusiasm, charisma,
It’s what I hope to spread.
My favorite thing to teach others is that it’s all inside your head.
